Ford Escort MK1 2-Door – 2.0 Pinto Engine & 5-Speed Gearbox
This MK1 Escort is not a genuine Mexico, but it's a meticulously built example that drives exceptionally well. Powered by a 2.0 Pinto engine paired with a 5-speed gearbox, the car runs, starts, and handles flawlessly. It has had significant investment over the years, ensuring it’s in top condition. The shell is in excellent shape, being a solid UK car with very few repairs. The car is also MOT’d until September 2025. It was featured in Retro Ford magazine in 2008, with a copy of the feature included with the car.
Body
This is a Mk1 Escort 2-Door shell, reinforced to the same standard as a Type 49, including tramp bar brackets. The bodywork is excellent underneath, with only two very minor repairs throughout its life. The paint finish is flawless, with perfect panel alignment and even gaps. There is no rust or corrosion anywhere. The Mexico decals were added by the previous owner.
Mechanics
The car is powered by a 2L Jem Pinto engine with an upgraded cam, vernier pulley, and a big valve head. It also features an RS sump, mounts, 45 Weber carbs, and a Tony Law exhaust manifold paired with a full stainless steel exhaust system. Additional performance enhancements include electronic ignition, a Twin Cam anti-roll bar, coilovers on the front, vented front discs, Cosworth rear discs, AVO rear shocks, single-leaf rear springs, an LSD, an Airtec radiator, and an electric fan.
Interior
Inside, the car boasts a 6-dial, 140 mph Twin Cam dash that functions perfectly. It features a suede deep-dish steering wheel, period-correct front contour bucket seats, and retrimmed matching rear seats. The interior is complete with new door cards, carpet, and headlining, making it a very clean, tidy cabin with everything working as it should.
Wheels
The car sits on JBW Replica RS 4-spoke wheels, shod with new tyres all around.
